Frequently Asked Questions.
What are your hours of operation?
We are open 7:00 am - 6:00 pm Monday through Friday except on major holidays.
What is your Teacher-Student ratio in the classroom?
It depends on the age of the child. In the Infant/Toddler Suite the ratio is 1:4. The Two year old class is broken down into younger and older two year old's and they are maintained at a 1:8 ratio while the children in the Three and Four year old classes maintain a 1:10 ratio. Our School Age class maintains a 1:18 ratio, however, a minimum of two teachers always accompany the children on field trips.
Do your teachers have teaching degrees?
Many of our teachers have a four-year-degree, associates degree and/or CDA's. Additionally, all teachers are required to complete a minimum of 10 continuing education classes each year as well as having a current CPR/First Aid Certification.
What is a typical day like?
Typically the children will arrive and go to a classroom with others about their age to play, chat, and do art work of their choosing until 9:15 am. At that time they will spend three hours on academics and learning to get along in a group (socialization). After the academic time the children have lunch, nap/rest, snack and playtime, both structured and open-ended.
What do you do in the summer months?
As part of our summer program, our School-Age children are given the opportunity to attend field trips to several different local places of interest in the community. This may include swimming, WRIC Newsroom Tour, Launch Trampoline Park, Movies, Bricks 4 Kidz, Jimer's Frozen Custard, miniature golf and tours of local facilities of interest. Permission forms must be signed by a parent or guardian. Along with this, we have weekly topics that will enrich the children's summer experience such as exploring nature and outdoor sports activities.
Do you have a curriculum?
We use the Creative Curriculum for the academic portion of our program. In general, we will follow the calendar, such as in November we will talk about giving thanks to God and in December we will talk about the birth of baby Jesus, and so on.
What are your safety and security measures?
Our center is secured by a swipe card system and our doors are closely monitored by our front desk staff and entering and exiting the building is allowed only through the main doors of the building.
We hold regularly-scheduled emergency drills to familiarize the children with necessary procedures for evacuation in the event of an emergency.
